Effects of the industrial revolution
Many things resulted from the Industrial Revolution. There were both short and long term effects that have had an impact on our lives even today. The immediate effects from the Industrial Revolution included the growth of factories, which helped produce more goods and quality products that could then be shipped out in larger amounts, and improved transportation methods to help transfer these goods and people. New resources, such as steam and coal, also helped contribute to transportation since these resources powered ships, trains and other innovations. Other short term effects included the rise of a new working class due to the production of new jobs, and urbanization, which brought many people into cities due to new farming changes and the growing need for workers in the city. Long term effects of the Industrial Revolution included pollution due to the growth of cities, cheaper goods, the increase in big business, and improved public education as more students attended school and the government expanded. Another long term effect was the medical advances that resulted from new scientific discoveries. These included the development of the germ theory, identification of tuberculosis causing bacteria, the development of anesthesia used for surgeries, and better sanitation in hospitals. The effects of the Industrial Revolution on us today include an increased population, new sources of energy, continued improvements in health, and the regulation of world trade which all have a great impact on our lives today.
